Old School and New School Embalming...Why Both Need Each Other” and “Tried and True Embalming Techniques: Past & Present (3 hours)

  • Provide a brief, accurate history of embalming.
  • Show how embalming has progressed since its starting practice.
  • Honor embalmers of the past who have progressed and were successful in furthering and perfecting embalming.
  • Help the new incomers realize that embalming techniques of the past are still needful and should be utilized today.
  • Reveal how new innovations are still being developed and advancements in embalming.
  • Prove that old school and new school techniques of embalming can coexist.
  • Improve every funeral professional in the preparation room.
  • Discuss different embalming and special cases, such as Jaundice, Edema, emaciation, etc.
  • Educate those in funeral service that are not licensed embalmers, who may never practice embalming, know how an acceptable, well embalmed body should be presented to every family.

Explaining Embalming to Everyone (1 hour)

  • To aid funeral directors and embalmers with proper sensitive terminology of the embalming process, even if a funeral director is only a licensed funeral director and not an embalmer.
  • Provide funeral directors and embalmers with the knowledge and proper verbiage of explaining embalming to the public, whether its in funeral arrangements, community gathering, or as an educational guest speaker at an institute or event.
  • Bring an awareness to funeral directors of how having this knowledge will help guide families and the public to the benefits of embalming.
  • To show how embalming is the “greenest” form preserving the deceased.
  • To reveal to funeral directors that even though a family chooses cremation they can still guide a family with viewing.
  • To encourage funeral directors to help families see the value, purpose, and benefit of viewing and the funeral. The importance of having the final goodbye.

Approved for 4 hours of continuing education credit from the Kansas State Board of Mortuary Arts.

Cost:

  • $90/KFDA member before January 20 (or $100 after January 20)
  • $300/non-KFDA member
  • $50 Student

Registration Deadline:  January 20

A $30 fee will be assessed for cancellations after January 20, 2026 which covers the cost of the meal unless resold.
