What is the KFDA?

Founded in 1897, the Kansas Funeral Directors Association (KFDA) is the only organization in the state dedicated to promoting and supporting funeral professionals in Kansas. The KFDA is committed to supporting, educating and advocating for licensed funeral directors, embalmers, and funeral homes across the state of Kansas. The association provides continuing education opportunities, legislative advocacy, and resources, to help members uphold the highest standards of ethical and compassionate care in end-of-life services. KFDA also serves as a liaison between the funeral profession and state agencies, while promoting public awareness about the value and importance of meaningful funeral practices.

KFDA Membership 

The KFDA Membership covers the main funeral home location, its employees, and any additional branches or establishments operating under the same ownership or management. To ensure accurate membership records, applicants must list all licensed funeral directors and embalmers working at each location, as well as all affiliated branches or establishments operating under the primary home. 


The Association shall consist of duly licensed funeral establishments, funeral directors or embalmers in current good standing with the State Board of Mortuary Arts, who agree to comply with the Articles of Incorporation and By-Laws of the Association. The KFDA offers the following classes of membership:

  • Funeral Establishment MemberMust be held by a proprietor, partnership, corporation or a processional association lawfully engaged in the practice of funeral directing and embalming in the State of Kansas. A branch establishment may also hold an active membership in the KFDA or may be listed mailings. An establishment must designate one active member who shall be the voting representative of the firm and may designate an unlimited number of individual affiliate members. All active funeral establishments must also be a member of the NFDA
  • Active Member - Any owner, principal officer or manager of a member funeral establishment who is lawfully engaged in the practice of funeral directing or embalming and who is designated as that firm's active voting member. 
  • Affiliate Member - Any owner, partner, principal officer or employee who qualifies for membership and is actively affiliated with a member firm. This person shall have the right to hold office and to vote on all matters, except amendments to the constitution. 
  • Embalming Services - Funeral establishment that provides embalming services to funeral establishments. Embalming services directly to the public must be "funeral establishment members" of KFDA. 
  • Associate Member - Any person qualified for membership who is not directly or actively engaged in the funeral profession including retired members. 
  • Non-Resident Member - Any person qualified for membership who is a member in good standing in the state in which they do business.

KFDA Associate Membership

The KFDA Associate Membership is designed for individuals, businesses, and organizations that are not licensed funeral directors or embalmers but are connected to or supportive of the funeral service profession. This includes retired funeral directors, suppliers, vendors, insurance providers, educators, and others who work along side funeral professionals or serve the industry in meaningful ways. By becoming an Associate Member, you gain valuable access to networking opportunities, industry updates, and visibility within the Kansas funeral service community. It's a great way to build relationships, stay informed, and show your support for ethical and compassionate funeral care across the state.
